Within each page a young child and baby stand next to their respective capital and lower-case letters, surrounded by a frame entwined with plants and animals representing the particular letter. Sandra Ure Griffin graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1979, majoring in printmaking. She was the recipient of the Don Freeman Memorial Grant-In-Aid award from the Society of Children’sBook Writers and Illustrators and the Ezra Jack Keats Fellowship Award. Her first book Earth Circles was published by Walker & Co., in 1989. The mother of four grown sons, Sandra currently resides in Marengo, WI.
